Frequently Asked Questions

What is Alpine Day Camp? How is it different from other Summer Camp Programs?

Alpine Day Camp is a Summer Camp program that operates at Alpine Scout Camp under the Greater New York Councils, BSA. Although it is a Scouting program, Alpine Day Camp is open to the public and both registered Scouts and non-registered youth. This program is designed for youth in 1st to 7th Grade. Alpine Day Camp stands out among other summer camp programs with its unique blend of adventure, education, and personal development. Unlike traditional camps, Alpine Day Camp goes beyond mere recreational activities by integrating a diverse range of outdoor adventures, hands-on learning experiences, and character-building initiatives. Campers engage in thrilling outdoor pursuits like climbing, hiking, and swimming. The camp’s dedicated and passionate staff create a supportive and inclusive environment, encouraging campers to explore their interests and build lasting friendships. Alpine Day Camp is not just a summer escape; it’s a transformative experience that leaves a lasting impact on each camper, making it the premier choice for families seeking a well-rounded and enriching summer adventure.

What is a typical day like at camp?

Every day at day at Alpine Day Camp is jammed full of adventure and learning, carefully orchestrated to provide campers with a dynamic and memorable experience. We always start each day with an opening ceremony at approximately 8:45 AM. This opening gets kids pumped about the day ahead, introduces weekly themes and features songs and cheers to get their blood moving. Youth are split into age appropriate groups and activities begin at 9 AM. During the course of the day the groups will cycle amongst the program areas including Nature, Sports, Theater, Arts & Crafts, Target Sports, Swimming and Outdoor Skills. Around noon the groups return to the dining hall to have lunch with activities resuming shortly afterwards. If the camp is experiencing rainy weather, there are plenty of indoor areas where the campers can continue to participate in daily activities including our indoor climbing facility and activity center. Around 4:00PM the group gathers again to wrap up for the day and to prepare for pick up.

Are you a certified camp? How are your staff trained?

Alpine Day Camp operates under the banner of the Boy Scouts of America and is inspected annually as a part of the National Camp Accreditation Program (NCAP).  The purpose of NCAP is to help councils elevate camps to new levels of excellence in delivering Scouting’s promise to youth. As a Scouting program, we are required to engage in a rigorous review of camps and properties, continuous improvement, and correction or elimination of substandard practices. Only camps that successfully complete all aspects of the NCAP are BSA accredited camps. We are proud that we are an NCAP accredited camp and hold our program and staff to the highest standard.

In addition, our leadership participate in National Camping School, a program to provide adults with a learning experience and training related to the operation of council camp. Our staff learn the ins and outs of running a successful camp program focusing on the fields of camp administration, programing, climbing, aquatics, ecology, outdoor skills and target sports. When you drop off your children at Alpine Day Camp you can be assured that the camp is being run by trained staff following a nationally recognized program.

Is this camp just for boys? Do I need to be a registered Scout to participate?

Boys and Girls can enroll at Alpine Day Camp. The program is open to both registered Scouts and youth not in registered with Scouting.

Is there a sibling discount? Do you have a multiweek discount?

Do you have scheduled fieldtrips?

While we do not schedule off site fieldtrips, with 500 acres of woodland and programing spaces our facility has a lot to keep your child active and excited. We also schedule outside groups to come to the property to conduct demonstrations and special activities.
